Kalamazoo, Mich.-Kalamazoo FC will be hosting Detroit City FC in their last game of the season on Saturday, July 7 at Mayors Riverfront Park.  The match kicks off at 7 p.m. and stadium gates will open at 6:00 pm.   This will be the second matchup between the two division rivals in 2018 with the first match ending in a 1–1 tie in Detroit in front of over 6,000 fans.

KZFC and Detroit City have a history of close matches.  Last year Detroit City won both games in hard fought, one goal wins.  The first game this year was no different as Kalamazoo FC scored early and the teams played the next 80 minutes without another goal.  Detroit City scored in the 84th minute and both teams had late chances to win the game, but could not convert.

“It was a very good experience for our guys playing in Detroit,” said coach Brian Clements.  “We hung in there and defended well during the 2nd half and almost grabbed a late winner.”

Detroit City leads the league in attendance and typically has hundreds of their noisy supporters travel to away matches.  It should be a great match atmosphere on Saturday for the season finale.

KZFC currently sits in fifth place in the conference while DCFC are in third place. Neither team can move up in the rankings on the result of the final match, but both teams will want to finish the season with a win.

At the conclusion of the match, a number of “game worn” player jerseys will be auctioned off to fans.  Proceeds will be directed to local charities.   This has become a regular event at the end of the season for the team.

Notes:

  • Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm, gates open at 6:00 pm.
  • Pre-game draft beer is available for only $2.00
  • KZFC will be having a Latino night against DCFC, which will feature a pregame Mexican band, a Latino cultural performance at halftime, Mexican beer and also a Mexican food truck are expected.
  • A team season ending social will be held on Sunday, July 8 at Shakespeare’s Pub. The event is open and free to fans, will be downstairs in their lower level and will include team updates, player awards, etc.
