KZFC Draw on the Road at FC Indiana

The teal and purple picked up their first Conference point of the 2017 season with an away draw to FC Indiana.  It was the away leg of the two-game series against Conference newcomers FC Indiana, with Kalamazoo FC losing the home leg 0-2.

The draw was high scoring affair. It took a while to get things going, but once the goals started, they came in quick succession.  Jay McIntosh put Kalamazoo on the board first in the 39th minute with Adi Sodal blasting a rocket into the lower left corner to double the lead in the 44th.

KZFC continued the pressure in the second half, with a handful of chances failing to find the back of the net.  FC Indiana almost got on the board in the 55th minute if it hadn’t been for a goal line save by defender Spencer MacDonald, keeping the score at 2-0.

That score wouldn’t hold, however, as FC Indiana headed in a corner kick in the 63rd minute, making it 2-1. Just four minutes later, Indiana tied things up from a free kick from range. In the 69th, FC Indiana would score their third goal in six minutes when a penalty kick was converted, bringing the score to 2-3 in favor of Indiana.

Kalamazoo drew level in the 83rd minute, however, when half-time substitute Ali Kromah Traore headed home a free kick.  The score would stay at 3-3.

Said Kalamazoo FC head coach Lumumba Shabazz, “It was disappointing to give up a two goal lead, but I’m staying focused on the positive.  In both our matches against Indiana, we controlled possession and showed some great moments.  It’s something to build on.”

Kalamazoo FC remain in last place in the Great Lakes Conference with 1 point from four games. FC Indiana stay one spot ahead with 4 points.

Kalamazoo FC’s next match is Wednesday, June 7, when the boys head to Milwaukee for the away leg of two game series with the Torrent.  On June 11, Kalamazoo plays their next home match against Conference opponent Detroit City FC.
