The fan favorite goal keeper will be back for his third season with KZFC, but this time with a different role. We here at Kalamazoo FC are proud to announce that Beau Prey will be joining our team for the 2018 season as a player coach. Not only a first time for Beau to take on a role like this but also a first in KZFC team history to sign a player coach.
Currently a medical student at WMU, Prey has been one of the top keepers for Kalamazoo FC over the past two years, as he was named Supporters Player of the Year the first season. Before joining KZFC Beau played for GRFC and Kalamazoo College. During his time at Kalamazoo College he was named captain of the hornets both his Junior and Senior year and was named MIAA Tournament Defensive MVP, All-MIAA and NCAA All-Region.
Two Question Q/A
Q: What has your off-season been like?
A: “I have been working in the hospital daily. As I am entering my third year at WMU Med. We are doing rotations, so I’ve done a few months of internal medicine and neurology, a few months of family medicine and pediatrics, and I just finished a few months on psychiatry, as well as delivering babies on OBGYN. Now I’m studying for the grand daddy of all medical school exams that I will be taking in February. With my free time I try to fit in soccer whenever I can.”
Q: What are your thoughts on the new appointment of Coach Clements? What do you look forward to the most coaching with him and playing for him?
A: “Obviously I think Coach Shabazz is a great coach, and the team and myself will certainly miss his knowledge and coaching skills, but Coach Clem is a high-energy guy who proved in his interim status that he could get the team moving in the right direction. He’s got a lot of passion for the team, and some great ideas, that will hopefully help us to take the next steps as a program. I look forward to the opportunity to play for Coach Clem, as well as coach alongside him.”
