Kalamazoo FC Host Rival Grand Rapids FC
Andrew Streitel, 6/8/18, KZFC PR Intern
Kalamazoo FC will take on Grand Rapids FC in the US-131 Derby on Sunday at Mayors Riverfront Park with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff time.
This game will feature two of the best teams in the Great Lakes Conference of the National Premier Soccer League. The first game between the two teams was not a good one for KZFC. GRFC thumbed KZFC 5-0 in Grand Rapids just last weekend. The team did not have a good showing and the score does not reflect how close these two teams are.
GRFC currently sits in second place in the conference behind AFC Ann Arbor. GRFC has a record of 3-1-1 with a total of 10 points and a plus eight goal differential. KZFC is not far behind with eight points. However, the conference is so close that from second place to fifth place is only separated by two points. KZFC sits in fifth place with a record of 2-2-2 and a negative one goal differential.
Both teams have had similar results against the other teams in the conference and have been very competitive throughout the season thus far. This is a key game for KZFC and if they win they could move all the way up to second place in the conference. However, with a loss the team would stay in fifth place and even could fall to sixth place.
GRFC is coming off a tough loss in the semi-finals of the Michigan Milk Cup against Lansing United. The game was played on Wednesday and went all the way to a PK shootout. After a long 120 minutes of soccer GRFC fell short against Lansing United in the PK shootout.
This game is our Real Men Wear Pink game and KZFC will be wearing special pink uniforms to raise awareness of male breast cancer and support those who are effected by all types of cancer. The American Cancer Society will be in attendance taking donations and helping KZFC have a great night and support a great cause.
The battle of US-131 between KZFC and GRFC will be on Sunday at Mayors Riverfront Park with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff time.
